Planning our first long cruise is taking a lot of time and thought, even though the scouts have handled meal planning and will be making food purchases. There is a lot to coordinate! I am pulling together packing lists, boarding instructions, travel plans, Quarterdeck meeting agenda, and trying to remember to bring everything that the skipper should bring. Plus, I have a uniform shirt that needs patches sewn onto it.
Our COR tells me that the effective skipper is the one who, appears at events to be sitting around talking. This is because her work is done ahead of the activity and her scouts are trained and mentored to a level that lets them take charge. My scouts are good kids, and they learn fast, but I am not sure we are there yet. The question is whether all of them will apply themselves. Some have a history of neglecting to do that. I am hoping for a pleasant surprise.
