Blue Heron

The parents of one of my scouts gave me a thoughtful gift last week: a ceramic holiday ornament bearing a photographic likeness of a blue heron. Since our ship is named “Blue Heron,” this is a most appropriate present.

The family’s scout is one with whom I have had the opportunity to work- and get to know for some time, and whose challenges have challenged me to expand my leadership capabilities.
My tree is covered with unusual ornaments of sentimental value or special significance. My scouts mean a great deal to me, and this addition symbolizes their importance in my life. They teach me more than I teach them. Of this, I am certain.
