It is a rare pleasure to learn that an artist has found inspiration in my work, so I was delighted to receive an email from Sharon Thomas, the artist/calligrapher at Heartstrings Calligraphy and Design in Paris, Texas. Sharon needed an image from which to work on a watercolor of a sailboat in a storm. She Googled and found one of my photographs–from my album, Frostbite Regatta 2011–then asked if she could use it for her model. Of course, I agreed, and asked if she would be so kind as to send a photo of the work. Here it is, a gorgeous piece, made with care and love. When I wrote back to Sharon, to thank her for taking the time to send the picture, and giving praise for her work, her response included that, “John Carpenter, Jr. was the little baby boy that died soon after his birth. That is his first and middle name…it is very sad, but I was honored to be able to create a memorial piece for the family.”
You can find more of Sharon’s calligraphy on her website, www.heartstringsdesigns.com.
